Kyaking, Sailing, Boating and Canal Trips

If having spent an afternoon rowing down the river Armoncan, in the rowing boat provided with the house, you feel like spending more time in a boat, you can do just that by hiring a kayake from 3B tourisme - a few doors down from the Gates of La Maison du Chateau, visiting one of the lakes in the neighbourhood, or heading down the canel on a small canal boat.

The closest lake is Lac de Pont.  This is just beyond Semur-en-Auxois and is a great place for a day out, particularly for children.  It has some beautiful walks around it, as well as swimming, a beach and water sports.

If you fancy something more leisurely, the Canel Bourgoune is just a 5 minute walk from La Maison du Chateau.  You can then hire small canal boats from Montbard, and enjoy the beautiful scenery as you float down one of the great canals in France.  Even if not on one of the barges, it is fascinating to watch them be lifted up or lowered down as they pass through the locks.  The construction of the canal has changed the destiny of Burgundy, raising its status from a rural farming area to that of a great state with navigable waterways connecting the north of Europe to the Mediterranean sea.
