Travelling to La Maison du Chateau and/or The Gate House is remarkably easy. Our local town, Montbard, is only 15 minutes drive from La Maison du Chateau and offers direct TGV links to Paris (1 hr) and Paris to London (2 1/2  hrs).

Map of Villa original By car: La Maison du Chateau is approximately 5 hrs drive from the northern coastal port of Calais. Most of the 310 mile drive is on the A26 motorway past Reims and Troyes, with the last hour's drive on local roads through pretty villages and countryside. Alternatively if one takes the overnight ferry from Portsmouth to Caen the drive is again 5 hours, again almost all on motorway. The motorway skirts round Versailles and Paris where one picks up the A6 south to Auxerres, which is 50 minutes drive from the properties via Chablis or the charming medieval town of Noyers.

By train on Eurostar: You can go (almost) direct from London St Pancras to Montbard, just 15 minutes from the House. The Eurostar takes 2 1/2 hours from London to Paris (Gare du Nord) and then a quick metro or taxi to Gare de Lyon and you catch the TGV to Montbard (just 1 hour).  Car hire is available from Hertz Rental in Montbard.  For a Saturday arrival they can leave the car at the station and you pick up the keys from the Hotel de la Gare, which is opposite the station.

By air: There are obviously many choices of flights to Paris with easy links to the train system and car hire. There are also budget flights to other destinations eg Lille and Geneva. There are one or two private airfields within an hours’ drive of the house.

Day trips by train: The excellent train service makes day trips to Paris or Dijon very easy. Likewise, there is easy access to Disneyland Paris. There are many other wonderful places to visit and some suggestions are on the “Our Part of Burgundy” page.
